Beautiful Yellow Flowers
This lovely spray of yellow flowers was captured at The Rio Grande Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The soft colors seen in the background are other flowers that have been blurred intentionally to create a soft background. To create this effect, I attached a close-up lens to my telephoto zoom (a 70-210mm zoom lens). The close-up lens attachment allows me to get closer to the flowers I focused on. Also, it reduces the depth of field drastically so that anything more than a couple of inches past the flowers is reduced to a very soft blur. For this type of photography, absolute sharpness is not as important as the overall effect of the selective blurring and hows the colors compliment each other. I used an old zoom lens and one of those close-up add-on lenses that typically come three in a box for about $25 or so.
