Lily of the Field

Lily of the Field

 │
Take a lesson from the lilies of the field, how they are growing; they do not toil, nor do they spin; but I say to YOU that not even Sol′o‧mon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these . . . -Matthew 6:28,29

This photo of a lily was captured at the New York Botanic Garden in the Bronx, New York City over the past summer. A brilliant array of lilies of all sorts were on display. I thought that this image lent itself to a bit of poetic text. What could be better than the words of Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount? As he observed the lilies carpeting the hillsides, he reminded his disciples that their abundant growth was evidence of God’s care. “If, now, God thus clothes the vegetation of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much rather clothe YOU, YOU with little faith? -Matthew 6:30.

Reflecting on Jesus words helps us to appreciate that our faith in him can dispel the anxiety that comes with living in an increasingly unstable world. God never abandons those who love him.
