White Lily & Stamens
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
This beautiful white lily was captured in close-up at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Brooklyn, New York. Its slender, elegant stamens provide the focal point of this composition. I was fortunate to have a beautiful color compliment in the green background foliage and blurred it using the widest aperture on my Canon 55-250mm EF-S lens. You can achieve very smooth background blur results with proper technique with this inexpensive lens. I wrote a tutorial on how to obtain smooth background blur with modest telephoto zoom lenses to help you create a similar look. New York City’s Brooklyn Botanic Garden on a spring – early summer weekday is a quiet, colorful setting ideal for flower photography.
