New Mexico Landscape

New Mexico Landscape

 │

I can still remember it vividly. It was a hot, dry New Mexico summer day, with powder blue skies and fast-moving clouds that played peek-a-boo with the landscape. I had been on the road for at least four hours on the last legs of a cross country road trip.  I passed through Santa Fe, and was headed for Albuquerque on 1-25. I caught a glimmer of this captivating vista out of the corner of my right eye. Determined to get a better view, I pulled off at the next exit and circled back. This is the first photo I ever shot in New Mexico, and one of the most memorable.  Just look at this scene. The majestic mountain backdrops . . . the rugged landscape . . . that southwestern color palette . . . this is an uncommon beauty.

New Mexico  has a landscape, sense of history and culture that gives it a distinct visual stamp. There is a humble symbiosis between the land, the light, and the culture of New Mexico that is timeless and visually arresting. The photo above, from the Jemez Mountains near Santa Fe, shows an example of that timeless merging of elements. I have more photos of New Mexico landscapes here and a collection of Albuquerque (New Mexico) photos here.

These photos were taken with a Panasonic Lumix FZ20. I wish a had a better DSLR and know more about the craft of photography at the time I captured these photos seven years ago. C’est la vie!  -Donald Peterson, I create business to consumer web design in my other life.
