Rusted Old Truck, New Mexico

Rusted Old Truck, New Mexico

I have taken numerous photos of this old, rusted New Mexico pick-up truck (here is another photo of the same old truck, and another), in different light and seasons. On open display in an old, dilapidated barn in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico, it is one of my favorite visual treats in all of southwest. Covered with the fine red clay of the Jemez red rock high-desert, it holds court like a wise old Native American elder. This image is my most graphic of this truck, with strong simple lines and poster-like colors. I shot this during summer on a sunny mid-afternoon. Strong shadows hide the barn that surrounds this handsome old relic.

This old pick up truck, nestled in a dilapidated barn in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico, has more charm than any modern, high priced sports car! I consider this weathered relic my New Mexico icon. Like the New Mexico culture, it is unpretentious, timeless, and blessed with earthy appeal. I discovered this old truck during one of my many pleasant sojourns along the Jemez Mountain Trail, a scenic route from Albuquerque to Santa Fe through the Jemez Mountains. It is located on a side road near a popular fishing spot just past the Jemez Pueblo (I remember it only by landmarks, sorry). If you ever plan to visit Santa Fe or Albuquerque, you must explore the Jemez Mountain Trail. It is one of New Mexico’s most pleasant attractions.Camera: Nikon D40, kit lens. -Photo by Donald Peterson
