The Lights and Color of Times Square
There is nothing “shy and retiring” about Times Square! This is New York City’s most extroverted neighborhood. It demands the brightest lights and biggest crowds. Needless to say, it gets what it wants. This image shows a sample of the over-the-top signage and architectural details that adorn Broadway in Times Square.

I remember coming into Times Square one night about 1:00 in the morning yearning for a slice of Junior’s Cheesecake (you can do that in New York City). Looking around on that brisk winter night, I realized that the street lights were all dark. There is so much illumination generated by the billboards and signage that street lamps are essentially unnecessary here. By the way, Junior’s Cheesecake (restaurant featuring excellent cheesecake) alone is worth the trip to Times Square (or Downtown Brooklyn where the original Junior’s is located). Arguably they are among the top two places to get a great slice of cheesecake in New York. I consider them number one.
