Cherry Blossom Trees in bloom, Branch Brook Park

Cherry Blossom Trees of Branch Brook

The stately boughs and resplendent blooms of cherry blossom trees adorn Branch Brook Park in Essex County (Newark), New Jersey during the 2011 35th Annual Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival.

I captured this photo on a day when the early blooming white blossoms and late pink blooms were both on display. I could not have asked for better light, with the partial cloud cover softening and reflecting sunlight into the shadows.  The oldest cherry blossom trees are my favorite. Their gnarled, dark boughs provide the perfect contrast to translucent white blooms.
